Author buys your diary

If you can be a musician
even though you don’t write your own songs,
can’t you be an author
even though you don’t write your own books…
Press release
Danish author buys your diary
Danish author Peter Dyreborg wants to buy other peoples diaries, blogs and personal letters, for example love letters. And then he wants to publish it all in a book, but in his own name so it looks like he has written the book himself.
Lots of people want to participate
In Denmark, he went public with his new project in the Danish daily, Berlingske, on September 8th. After appearing in several Danish media, he has received numerous emails from people, who want to sell him their personal stories. He has already bought a love letter – a very unhappy one – and a diary from a schizophrenic.
Right now, he seeks people all over the world who want to sell him their diaries, blogs and personal letters. But why is he doing this? And why are people interested in selling him their diaries?

Controversial 31 year old author
In Denmark, Peter Dyreborg is well known as an author because of his controversial projects. In 2003, he published a collection of poems with the title “Bestseller”, and this book was entirely financed by advertisements and handed out for free all over Denmark.
His latest book, “Pro Bono”, was sponsored by a Danish bank and handed out to Danish soldiers stationed in Iraq, as well as to families with children who suffered from cancer. He is also a well known spoken word and poetry slam performer.
Access to peoples innermost thoughts
But again, why? Well, 1) for Peter Dyreborg it is very amusing to be controversial, and 2) the new project raises a number of interesting questions in regards to what role the author actually plays as a person and the whole concept of autobiographies – if the author is not identical with the person, who has actually written the book, then what?
And 3) as an author, this is a whole new way for Peter Dyreborg to do research. Not only are complete strangers helping him write his next book, but he’s also allowed access to their innermost thoughts and feelings, which is pure gold for any author.
People get to stay anonymous
What Peter Dyreborg offers, besides money, is anonymity. People get to tell their own personal story, which is often too private for publication in their own name. Now, these people can tell their story to the world without reveling themselves.
Peter Dyreborg also seeks people, who have an interesting story to tell, but lack the skills of an author to make the story worth reading.
Furthermore he seeks people who live in countries where they for one reason or another can not publish their story.

Worldwide autobiography
At first Peter Dyreborg only wanted to gather material around Denmark, but now he has decided to gather material from people worldwide using YouTube, MySpace and the like. At the rate he is receiving material right now, the book will probably be published in Denmark in 2008 and later on hopefully in Europe and then worldwide.
So far, it is his plan that the book is actually going to appear as though it is his autobiography… Which makes the whole concept of buying diaries etc. from complete strangers even more thought-provoking.
